This retreat focuses on the craft of writing and explores how artists of faith can create in ways that reflect the goodness, truth, and beauty of our Creator.January 2020 – Featured Guest Author: Bret Lott For twelve days, students gather on HBU’s campus for classes, workshops, and the annual HBU Writers Conference.Meals and lodging for the four residencies are included in tuition.Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements.With full funding for all, and one of the best student-to-faculty ratios (3.5 to 1) in the country, the program ensures personal attention and a friendly writing community.A fully funded three-year program in three genres: poetry, fiction and nonfiction, with active encouragement to work across genres.With a variety of visiting instructors, the May residency explores how the work of great poets and authors have inspired and shaped today’s successful writers, offering students a chance to build upon a great tradition, while developing unique voices of their own.
As the featured speaker during the Creative Writing MFA’s first retreat in January 2020, Lott will share thoughts on the craft of writing while working closely with the program’s graduate students in workshops throughout the week-long residency.
