Research Paper On Slavery
In the year of 1619, the first African Americans arrived in the New World right off the coast of Jamestown.
It is estimated that half of all white men that came to the colonies came as bondsmen.
Although Africans first came to the New World around 1501, the early colonists did not think to use them as slave labor.
Instead, they imported poor, white indentured servants from Europe to clear forests and cultivate fields.
Many factors added to the start of black slavery in the colonies; economic and racial reasons were two of the biggest contributors.
One of the prime roles in the enslavement of blacks was the economy.
