CNS 860 Assessment and Treatment of Addictive Behaviors (3 credits) This course focuses on psychological and psychosocial effects of various drugs, along with current information on addictive patterns and behaviors of individuals.Graduate Diploma of Pastoral Counselling Applicants for the Graduate Diploma of Pastoral Counselling must meet the following Admission Requirements: Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree (or AQF) equivalent in theology, psychology or Australian Qualifications Framework.Applicants with degrees in any other disciplines are encouraged to apply.OR Applicants without an undergraduate degree may be considered, with evidence that they are able to undertake tertiary studies in this area (such as a letter of motivation and two professional or academic references).English Language Proficiency Standard English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements. Master of Pastoral Counselling Applicants for the Master of Pastoral Counselling must meet the following Admission Requirements: * be able to demonstrate through a pre-admission interview personal suitability to undertake professional practice as a pastoral counsellor, including self-awareness, relational capacity, personal ethical practice, being able to reflect on and learn from experience, and being open to positive and challenging feedback; and * hold an undergraduate degree (or AQF equivalent) in theology or psychology, however applicants with degrees in other disciplines are encouraged to apply; or * have successfully completed the Graduate Diploma of Pastoral Counselling or * hold a Graduate Diploma of Counselling from another institution; These applicants may be required to complete the core subject theological component of a Graduate Diploma of Theology before being granted admission to the Master of Pastoral Counselling. Applicants for the Graduate Diploma of Pastoral Counselling must meet the following Admission Requirements: English Language Proficiency Standard English Language Proficiency (ELP) requirements. This will apply to both domestic and international applicants.The program provides doctoral students with advanced theories and clinical skills for counseling practice as well as knowledge required to carry out scholarly research.The program leading to the DCPC degree consists of a minimum of 42 semester credits beyond a master’s degree, 8 semester credits of an internship, a candidacy examination, and a quantitative or qualitative dissertation.CNS 810 Counselor Spirituality and Identity (3 credits) The Christian counselor must be in good spiritual as well as emotional and psychological health in order to assist those needing healing.This course focuses on self-examination, as well as on ways the counselor may sustain good spiritual health while assisting others in a broken world.This course focuses on a comprehensive examination of the major psychiatric disorders contained in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, including Personality Disorders and character flaws.Students will learn multi-axial diagnosis and develop treatments for these disorders.
