As part of the approval process, the appropriate University Dean or the Director of the Research Institute must carefully evaluate all the circumstances when considering extra compensation.Federal rules and regulations, including OMB Circular A-21, Cost Principles for Educational Institutions, and the NIH Grants Policy Statement, do not allow an individual’s institutional base salary to be increased as a result of obtaining sponsored research funding.These federal rules and regulations also restrict the payment of extra, bonus, or other payments outside the individual’s institutional base salary.This policy applies to faculty and research professional and administrative staff supported by sponsored research programs.
