Causes Of World War 1 Essay Help

World War 1 Summative There were four main causes of World War One which include alliances, imperialism, militarism and nationalism, but in my opinion, though all causes contributed greatly to World War 1, the causes that had the most effect on starting the war were nationalism and imperialism.I believe Imperialism played a huge part in causing World War 1 because the great powers of Europe all wanted to make money selling their natural resources, but when they ran out there was a huge conflict for resource rich land and expanding their respective countries. When Germany decided to attack France by travelling through Belgium, as per the Schlieffen plan, Belgium denied entry to Germany, making Germany also declare war on Belgium.Great Britain was then forced to come to Belgium’s aid because of an alliance treaty.

The Origins of the First World War suggest that Emile Zola thought war is important for the country to be successful because the author wrote, “ War is life itself.Germany felt that this powerful alliance surrounding them posed a real threat to their existence and power in the region.Imperialism Imperialism is when a country expands its influence and power into a large empire.A lot of these factors were rooted in the deep history of the old powers of Europe including Russia, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Hungary, and Britain. The real causes of World War I included politics, secret alliances, imperialism, and nationalistic pride. This created a much bigger war than was originally expected with the Triple Entente (France, Britain and Russia) on one side and the Triple Alliance (Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy) on the other.Militarism also had a huge impact on World War 1; though its influence may not have been as big as Nationalism or Imperialism it still had influenced the war greatly.Militarism is the belief that a country should have a strong military and between the Franco-Prussian war and World War 1 there were a great number of inventions and advances, especially in naval warfare. This led to tension building up between the great powers of Europe, much like the Cold War except on a smaller scale.Nothing exists in nature,is born, grows or multiplies except by combat”(Document 1).This primary source helps explain militarism was an underlying cause of the war because it states with war, you can gain success and prosperity.
