Internal assessment involves both written and practical skills.
The external assessment involves one written exam and a computer based task under supervised conditions.
Subject description: This course is for highly motivated students who want to develop the knowledge and skills needed to become a competent IT user.
The BTEC National qualification is more practical than a traditional A Level and the skills and knowledge acquired will support further study towards entry level roles in IT, such as vocational apprenticeships, social media specialist, web/content developer, or business analyst.
Course detail This course covers the fundamentals of science, working in the science industry, scientific investigation and practical techniques, perceptions of science and application of number.
You will also study mathematics, statistics, human physiology, microbiology techniques, genetics and genetic engineering, medical physics techniques, electrical circuits, chemical reactions, chemical periodicity and organic chemistry. The Applied Science BTEC is highly valued by employers and higher education providers.
There are visits to university Computer Science departments during the course.
You will also develop an understanding of the uses of information in the public domain, globally, in the cloud and across the Internet, by individuals and organisations.

Externally assessed units: Students on the Diploma and Extended Diploma courses must complete all the work required for the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate by the end of Year 12 to be able to continue with their studies in Year 13.
